According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the mean annual salary of a physical therapist for May 2007 was $71,520, with those in the bottom 10% earning a mean annual salary of less than $48,530 and those in the top 10% earning a mean annual salary of more than $100,000. This job also has great expectations for growth, so it is likely that there should be no problems getting a job in this field if you have the qualifications.

There are many factors that can affect the salary range of a physical therapist, including the industry they work in, the location where they work, and the years of experience that they have. All of these things need to be considered when considering the income of a physical therapist.

The industries where the mean annual pay of a physical therapist is the highest are social advocacy organizations ($82,710), other amusement and recreation industries ($82,650), home health care services ($79,300), vocational rehabilitation services ($76,980), and employment services ($74,720). However, only one of these industries is among the top employers of physical therapists, and that is home health care services. The other industries among the top five physical therapist employers are offices of other health care professionals, general medical and surgical hospitals, nursing care facilities, and offices of physicians. It looks like the best chance of getting a job with a high salary for physical therapists is to work in the home health care services.

Although salaries vary by location, when you consider the salary range for physical therapy in different locations be sure to also consider the cost of living as well. With that said, the states with the highest pay for physical therapists are Nevada ($80,960), California ($78,940), Rhode Island ($78,430), New Jersey ($78,130), and Texas ($77,290). Rhode Island is also one of the states that employ the most physical therapists. The others are Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

Experience definitely does make a difference in the income of a physical therapist. According to PayScale, the median annual salary for physical therapists with less than one year of experience is $53,586, while that of a physical therapist with 20 or more years of experience is $69,601. The longer you work as a physical therapist the higher your salary can go.

Those with higher levels of experience and higher levels of education are more likely to hold positions in management or positions with more responsibility, which in turn lead to the higher salary ranges for physical therapists. Louis Zhang, Certphysicaltherapist dot com

Many organizations consider pre-employment drug screening as an effective strategy to save their workplace from unwanted conflicts due to the drug abusers. Pre-employment drug screening is a proactive measure companies take to maintain high productivity environment. It helps them to make the workplace safer, and their employees free from frequent sick leaves and to prevent drug abuse on the job.

The Advantages of Pre-Employment Drug Screens

Pre-employment drug testing has many advantages.

* Pre-employment drug testing helps organizations to check drug-abuse habits of the job applicants. Thus, it helps them to avoid hiring people with habit of frequent drug abuse.

* Pre-employment drug testing not only helps organizations to create a safer and drug-free workplace but also reduces or avoids their chances of handling any future conflicts due to the drug abused employees in their organization. These conflicts include workplace violence or accidents, health benefit utilization and costs, lowered productivity, high insurance premiums, and frequent health-related absences.

* The pre-employment drug-screening program in an organization also has an ample potential to drive the drug abusers away from applying in it. This can be very helpful for small and medium businesses where drug abusers are more likely to apply, as they dont need to invest much of their time and money on such applicants.

Drawbacks of pre-employment drug screens

Though pre-employment drug screening has many advantages, there are some issues associated with it.

* The major drawback of drug screening is its sample collection process where job applicants are likely to feel violation of their privacy. This increases the hassle for organizations of handling the screening more sensitively.

* Some drugs such as marijuana remain detectable for up to three weeks after their usage. Some other drugs such as cocaine might remain only for few hours after usage. Thus, making a hiring decision based on these results requires much caution as it may affect the career of a job applicant.

* There are some possibilities of prescription-drugs affecting the drug-testing results. Organizations discriminating a job applicant based on the prescription drug-abuse could be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Some latest advances in medical testing have resulted in evolvement of certain drug-screening products, which are easy to monitor, adulteration proof, affordable, and provide instant and reliable results. These enable organizations to conduct pre-employment drug-screening effectively, with a decreased potential of drawbacks.

The Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) published its twelfth report in July 2011. The report entitled A recipe for rip offs: time for a new approach, was put before the House of Commons for consideration. The PASC expressed concern about the Government’s over-reliance on an “oligopoly” of large suppliers, the costs and risks arising from skills gaps within Whitehall, the problems arising from legacy information technology (IT) systems, and weaknesses in the Government’s capacity to plan and drive through wholesale change in the way it uses and exploits IT in delivering public services. The Committee also explored some of the possible ways in which the delivery of online public services could be reformed, and transformed, through a combination of data release, giving individuals control of their own personal records, engaging users (both within and outside Government) in the design of services, and opening up the online delivery of services to a wider range of organisations.

The government responded quickly to the report, however, the Committee chose not to publish a counter- response until it had taken advice on the Government’s progress in driving through the necessary changes. In December 2011, the National Audit Office published its first review of the Government’s progress in implementing its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) strategy (the NAO report). Now all the information is available, the committee has issued a further report in which it commends the governments generally constructive and proactive response to the report, though it remains critical about the governments failure to engage with some of the other wide-ranging recommendations, particularly around benchmarking, legacy systems and capacity/capability gaps.

The Cabinet office has subsequently responded to the PASC statement. Cabinet Office minister, Francis Maude, said the government would consider the full report before commenting but stated:

Historically, government ICT has had an unenviable reputation but our recent work shows we are moving it in the right direction so we are delighted that the PASC have praised our momentum in this area and the progress we have made. We are determined to deliver world-class public services that offer value for taxpayers money and we know that effective and efficient ICT is crucial in this.”

“We set out some ambitious objectives in our ICT strategy and since then we have been going from strength to strength. As well as getting the major players in central government involved in the implementation of the strategy, we already have foundation delivery partners delivering their email services via Cloud and other partners using the Public Services Network.”

“The action we are taking will reduce waste, avoid the costly project failures of the past and see smart technology systems being used to improve the way public services are delivered. Successful implementation of the ICT strategy across central government is projected to contribute to 1.4bn of savings already required within the SR10 period with 460m savings in-year in 2014/15.”

Training new employees should never end after the original training process. Often, an employer will put their new employees through a month of classroom training, going through every arcane fact that pertains to the business, and then dumping them out into their workforce. It is tough to understand the job title and the responsibility that comes with it without a more through training process. People are always learning on the job and it isn’t until doing the actual job itself that the employee starts to get a grip of what his or her job responsibilities are.

New employees should always be shown thorough and complete rules and regulations that have to do with the business. If they are left confused about anything at all, they will not be happy with the job they have been given. They should always know who their trainers are, where they should go every day and what their job will entail. Anything that is in their job description should be gone over by a trainer who can answer questions when they arise.

When trainers or managers fail to inform employees of all the things they need to know, it opens the door to mistakes and miscommunications. Both of these can devastate a business so it is best when all employees know exactly what they are supposed to be doing at all times, whether they are a new employee or not.

Employers are seeking people who have skills, qualifications and the education to be the kind of employees they need to successfully run their company. Once the employees know the rules, know what their job is and how to do it, the employers can continue to develop their skills by offering college courses, refresher courses or other methods of keeping employees up to date on new procedures, techniques and knowledge. This is excellent for molding employees into future executives of the company.

Supervisors make their employees job satisfaction rates high by showing them appreciation and respect. New employees will not stay at a job where the existing employees are not happy and are not afraid to show it. Managers should keep this in mind when dealing with new employees, knowing what they will see and whom they will talk to. It is better to guard against such bad situations by making sure all employees know that they are valued and a vital cog to the operation of the business. They may decide to cross train their employees, giving them additional responsibilities, showing them respect by suggesting additional training in more areas.

Managers also need to make sure their employees feel comfortable or they likely will not be at the company for long. Make sure the employees know exactly what the job entails and that there will always be there to answer every question and the employer will feel loyal and be more likely to stay with the company for a long time.

In spite of the fact that workers monitoring systems do not directly contravene the law, they add to creating a unreceptive work environment, that is offensive both from ethical and legal standpoints. There is Privacy Act that includes primary law related to members of staff privacy rights. This law forbids third parties to receive disclosing or accessing information personal exchange of ideas, to any outer parties without previous consent from the recipient or author. The two major exceptions to the law are that employer has the privilege to monitor workers conversation under the circumstances if they take place during the everyday business hours and adding the indirect permission on the side of employees. By themselves, issues do arise in situations when a worker has not been informed beforehand about possible footage.

This law gives virtually unrestricted rights to employers; though, with the increasing number of legal events against employers disobedience of employee privacy rights, the necessity for a change has been approved. To be more exact, legislation proposes to limit employers in electronic monitoring staff and applies to analysis, reporting, storage and collection of information connected with employees either partially or as whole by wire, radio, photo-optical, photo-electronic, or electromagnetic system. Under this statement, employers have to use notification techniques to inform their employees about the forthcoming monitoring, detail which private data would be collected and in which way it will be used. Employer also dont a right to monitor rest room, dressing room, and locker room facilities. Employers would be charged for each abuse for $10.000 as a minimum.

Even though the Act about privacy has not been accepted yet, the requirement for legal adjustments that protect workers privacy privileges has been acknowledged. Going even further, the growing number of officially permitted actions initiated by staff seeking defense from state judges also proves that there is a noticeable need to keep a tight rein on employer monitoring.

It never ceases to amaze me how people in the government who are responsible for keeping an eye on technology and analyzing its effects can be so blind to the realities of a situation. One would think that being head of a telecommunications or an IT department of a country should somehow be enough of a qualification to be able to understand the issues and to see for yourself what’s what. Unfortunately, the reverse seems to be true. Sometimes it seems that the most ill-informed and technology blind people are elevated to the position of having to decide how technology should progress!

Governments across the world have struggled with slotting Internet-based calling services or VoIP into their traditional regulatory framework. But they’re stymied by the fact that a VoIP network shares very little in common with the traditional PSTN system. To start off with, you don’t require massive amounts of infrastructure and you don’t need to layout miles of wire both above and under the ground in order to build it out. Its beauty is that it works off the underlying Internet connection which is already set up and available to everyone. So the barriers to entry vanish almost overnight.

Second, VoIP is merely another Internet-based application. True it distinguishes itself from normal web traffic from being P2P and real-time, but so does online gaming. It is impossible to pick and choose what Internet services are going to be regulated and what won’t be simply due to the functionality. This leads to an unnecessary discrimination against specific types of traffic that is unwarranted.

The government in Saudi Arabia for example has foolishly decreed that only operators with a telecom license are able to provide VoIP services thereby essentially making programs like Skype illegal. The futility of such a gesture is obvious given the ease with which it can be used. You can’t possibly prosecute thousands of people for using software that is itself is beyond your control. People are going to use the Internet in whatever way they please and will find ways around governments trying to protect the old way of doing things and keep the old revenue-generating business models intact.

Even countries with far more powerful and sophisticated surveillance systems and firewalls like China are unable to maintain control over the Internet. It’s an exercise in futility and the faster government bodies around the world recognize this, the easier everyone’s life can be.

The actor must learn and perfect many skills before they will be successful at their profession. Whether an actor works in television, motion picture productions, or theater, these skills are necessary. They may come naturally to some of the top actors, but most have to work hard through schooling and practice. Very few can say they were born to do this job.

The skills that actors must master include speech rate, oral projection, voice clarity, physical and vocal expression, vocal pitch, physical stance and eye contact. Many performers have worked for years to perfect a technique. Some are good at one and not another.

Others have a natural gift for all. Whether they intend to perform in TV drama, movie or film drama, voice acting, musicals or theater productions, knowledge of each is necessary to meet the requirements of an acting career. These techniques will enable an actor to portray him/herself as being confident and ready to do the job.

Rate of speech is a skill that one can use in acting. A character actor could speak very slowly when portraying the part of someone with physical or mental handicaps. If portraying the part of an excited or agitated character, an actor might speak very fast. This is an effective way of getting the emotions and feelings of a character across to the audience.

However, many inexperienced actors and actresses have no sense of timing and speak either too slowly or too quickly. Vocal projection and clarity are two more skills that can be signs of experience, or lack of, on the part of an actor or actress. Vocal projection and clarity, especially in theater productions are necessary to ensure that the entire audience can both hear and understand what the actor is saying.

The character actor must master the arts of both vocal and physical expression. Body language is a major factor in physical expression as it is used to portray the attitude and emotion of a character at any given time. Vocal expression does the same thing, but in a different way. It uses other things like pitch ranges to show emotions and feelings.

Pitch is the range of an actor’s tone of voice. Pitch ranges can be from very high to very low, depending on the emotion being portrayed. Physical stance is important because poor posture and fidgeting indicates nervousness and a lack of confidence. The actor must always be concerned with eye contact as well, not only with the audience but also with the other cast members too.

A whole world of information about the actor eagerly awaits you from Mike Selvon portal. We appreciate your feedback at our acting workshops blog.
